QUIKSILVER PRO - Puerto Escondido MEX

O catarinense Ricardo dos Santos, fez uma bela participação no Quiksilver Pro 2010, etapa de nível 4 estrelas do WQS finalizada nesta quinta-feira, em ondas de 1 metro e séries maiores em Puerto Escondido, México.

Em decisão dominada pelo local David Rutherford, Ricardinho conquistou o quarto lugar e embolsou US$ 3 mil pela performance.

Com notas 8.55 e 9.90, Rutherford não deu chance aos adversários e saiu da água com um cheque de US$ 12 mil e 1000 pontos no ranking do circuito mundial.

Em segundo ficou o havaiano Kevin Sullivan, seguido pelo compatriota Casey Brown.

Também chegaram ao último dia de prova o carioca Stephan Figueiredo e o paulista Nathan Brandi. Stephan caiu na semi e finalizou a etapa em sétimo lugar, enquanto Nathan foi nono.

World Tour terá novo formato após próxima etapa

Após 4 etapas já realizadas, a ASP (Associação dos Surfistas Profissionais) "reforçou" no seu site (como a maioria já sabiam) que após 5 etapas o Tour terá apenas os 32 melhores do ranking, ou seja, do 33ºao 45º automaticamente estarão desclassificados para o resto da temporada. Neste momento Neco e Marco Polo estariam fora, o primeiro com chances regulares e o último precisando de um milagre em Teahupoo, e tendo apenas Adriano de Souza e Jadson André para o resto do ano. Com esse formato a ASP pretende qualificar suas competições tendo em vista deixar cada mais acirrado a disputa pelo título mundial.

Concluindo, no dia 3 de setembro (último dia da janela de Teahupoo) estarão disponíveis apenas 32 atletas para as próximas 5 etapas do ano. Lembrando que no novo sistema do World Tour ranking é único, ou seja, os 45 mais pontuados do World Ranking (6 estrelas, prime e Title Race) estarão no World Tour de 2011.

Jordy Smith atropela e vence J-Bay

O Sul-Africano Jordy Smith, 22, vence a 4ª etapa do Tour em casa encima do novato australiano Adam Melling, 25.

Smith abriu a bateria com um 8.90 botando pressão sobre a surpresa do campeonato. Adam Melling bem que tentou respondendo com um 6.33, mas logo em seguida Jordy tirou um 9.03, deixando o australiano em combo logo cedo e praticamente selando a vitória.

"Foi o dia mais feliz da minha vida", disse Jordy Smith. "O público na areia torcendo por mim e os barulhos das vuvuzelas só me deram motivação para final", completa.

Depois dessa etapa o tour vai para Tahiti no Billabong Pro Teahupoo, que começa no dia 23 de agosto.

Oglevision’s Puerto Escondido IV Exposes the Heart and Soul of Deepest Mexico

In 1996, Dave Ogle and Todd Morcom won a SURFER Video Award for Longest Tuberide for an incredible barrel at Puerto Escondido in Puerto Underground II. Puerto Underground I was released in 1993 and Puerto Underground II in 1996. Now it has been almost 8 years since Puerto Underground III, and the latest installment features the best moments from the last several summers at the Mexican Pipeline. Shooting from land, sea and air, with film and video, Ogle has recorded all the thrills, chills, spills and drillings of surfing one of the gnarliest beachbreaks on the planet.

Puerto Escondido is kind of like Rick's Café Americain in Casablanca. Every summer, the best surfers in the world come for the waters and to test themselves in one of the gnarliest, barreling beachbreaks in the world. Ogle turns his camera on the famous and infamous, world champions and underground chargers and the featured surfers in Alma y Corazon reads like a Who's Who of What's Up: Brad Gerlach, Peter Mel, Skindog, Rob Machado, Dogtown Boyz Allen Sarlo and Jay Adams, the Brothers Long, Hobgood and Lopez. These visitors compliment a local crew who surf the place every day and have those barrels completely wired.

Alma y Corazon features the action at sea, but also gives an underground overview of the town of Puerto Escondido. No longer, a small, sleepy Mexican fishing village, Puerto Escondido is now a booming tourist town built around the barreling beachbreaks that have been attracting surfers since the 60s. Although the Mexican Pipeline is the main attraction, surfers have been spreading up and down the coast both ways to see what is happening, and Alma y Corazon provides some revealing glimpses of secret spots that are about to cause a big sensation in the professional surfing world.
